Tim Lorge is a photographer, filmmaker, and playwright based in the Hudson Valley, by way of Hell’s Kitchen and Philadelphia.

He shoots with Canon cameras and lenses, working in digital, 35mm still, and Super 8 film. He recently returned to developing his own film, using an AGO film processor from Vintage Visual. The Journal follows his work as it develops.

As a filmmaker, Tim has created documentary short films for MyFace and the American Parkinson Disease Association, as well as numerous training and public service films for the public sector.

His feature screenplay, The Naked Winemaker, set in Hudson Valley wine country, is in pre-production and scheduled to begin shooting in 2027.

His plays include Modern Love, The Betrayal, and Ben Loves Michele but She’s Positive, developed with The PlayGround Experiment in New York City. He is currently writing a new full-length play, The Great Summer Sausage in Lake Michigan, set in Port Washington, Wisconsin.

He has studied playwriting with Deborah Zoe Laufer, Stefanie Zadravec, and Kate Cortesi, and TV writing with Kara Lee Corthron, and is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.

He writes two newsletters on Substack:

  • TimLorge.com, his thoughts on writing, photography, filmmaking, and the creative life
  • Wine and Movies, a film-history newsletter that takes on the impossible job of pairing the right wine with the greatest movies of all time

He previously served as General Manager of Raindance New York, where he produced the Raindance New York Short Film Night, a short film festival in Manhattan.

Before all this, he spent far too many years as a technology writer and editor. If he had more time, he’d study painting, tuba, piano, music theory, and composition.
